I don't think they need to shorten the track, but rather require that there be a long "safety zone". Such as sand or something along those lines. drag cars can take roll-over's, they don't handle collisions though.

Don't worry 69, it won't let me post long messages either *grumbles* I'm going to the Mile High Nationals tomorrow! ya! But the 1000ft thing is dumb, our track has a great safety run out at the end.
