Default 350 sb engine ticking

I recently replaced my head gaskets and put my engine back together. It cranks over and runs and I can drive it. The problem is there is a ticking sound, and it the amount of times it ticks increases when there are more rpms. I think it might have to do with something with the distributor, because I think thats where the sound is coming from but I'm not sure. It also lags a little bit when I hit the gas in realtion to the ticking. If anyone has idea please let me know. THANKS.

Most likely the valve clearance is not properly adjusted, or there is an exhaust leak between the heads and exhaust manifold, or spark jumping to ground, I never seen or heard a distributor making ticking noises.

Could these problems cause the engine not to run smoothly, it seems to run kind of rough too.

A spark jumping to ground and maladjusted valves can cause rough running, but a leaky exhaust will have little effect.

almost positive its da valve clearance.. cuz if u think its from the dist, the valve cover is near by so they prolly need adjusted.. if u know to change head gaskets im sure u know how to adjust valve lash

take your cap off and make sure nothing inside has a CLEARANCE ISSUE,THEN RESET ALL YOUR VALVE CLEARANCES,THEN SET TIMING,YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE CURED
