I would stay away from passive crossovers. They require too much power to run them effectively. I've done this in the past and always found the electronic crossovers work best. And better yet, most are tunable. On-the-fly you can adjust your frequency as you listen in the car. It's better than guessing.

Just my two cents.

Umm, don't know too much about speaker building, do ya?

ALL multi driver speaker units have passive crossovers. PERIOD.

You use an active EQ before an amplification, and passive after.

CVRs are pretty nice speakers for the price they can be had. I've seen some horribly abused and still live to play another day. They don't sound too bad for a mainstream driver, either.

CVR's are not a good bang for the buck.

They are mediocre for how much they cost.

Large,distorted, *****.

Yeah, I've listened to one. In the custom box we built for them, the pair we were playing with sounded pretty good. They certainly weren't anything special, but for the price, they weren't bad. The box that was built to Kicker's specs made the drivers loud, but they sounded like crap. It sucks how companies like Kicker seem to give box specs for SPL, not for SQ or SQL.

That can be taken care of with proper box design and good EQ tuning.
