I have a 96, 3.8 v6 engine on my camaro. The car ran sporatically (did not accelerate consistantly while constant pressure on gas peddle, would pull forward while foot on break at a complete stop, check gages light on) for awhile and turned itself off 3 times because of overheating.

Things I tried:
I changed the starter because it would not crank. After that it did start but not easily and never twice within 20 minutes.
Recently changed the thermostat, water pump, serpentine belt and pcv valve but car will not start. It cranks but sounds like it is not getting gas or somthing.

Before the problems:
I changed the ignition coils, spark plugs and wires. One cylinder had a wire that was melted to the plug and the code for cylinder misfire still persists even though I changed it again.

I was told it might be the timing belt but I was wondering if anyone had an ideas on what else it might be. i am buying a code reader today and I will update as soon as I get more information.

Try a fuel pressure test, sounds like your fuel pump or regulator may be on the fritz...

 

the code scan came up with nothing, my fuel pump kicks on when I turn the key but I will look into it thank you

double check that the plug wires are in the right places? u may also want to check the coil out that had the wire on it that burned.

 

you said it was overheating. maybe check cylinder compression. with new coils plugs and wires if its sparkin, i dont think its electrical
