Automatic or manual trans?
Manual...worn clutch.
Automatic...worn out clutch pack, or low fluid level.
And that's assuming it's your trans that's "slipping."

Could also be a clogged trans filter.

Do the rpms continue to go up, but the speed stays the same or is slower than normal? You never did say if you had an auto or a manual tranny.

Does the engine hesitate or does it rev like normal? If it hesitates, your cat could be clogged. If it revs like normal, you likely either have a worn out clutch (manual), low fluid, or your torque converter is wearing out (auto).

Some more info on the problem would be nice

Fluids are like your blood -- keep them maintained or your car will have problems... ;-)

If the trans fluid isn't the problem, then it's likely your trans' clutches/bands.
