Tranny fluid leak and coolant in the engine?
I went to look at a 1994 camaro 3.4l v6. They said the engine was getting coolant into it. My mom's boyfriend (years of experience on auto mechanics) said that may be caused by a head gasket.
They also said the transmission leaks fluid, but it doesn't gush out fluid when it runs or anything.
SO my questions are
1. What does it take to fix the coolant problem?
2. Could the leaking fluid be caused by a bad seal? Please let me know as soon as possible. I want to know if it's worth buying.How much would this cost to fix. Could I do it myself. I probably could, but would it be easy?

It sounds like either an intake leak or head gasket leak for the coolant in the engine. Have the cooling system pressure test to determine if indeed it is a head gasket. The tranny could be the front seal or it could be the pan gasket itself.
Do you have patience, tools, jacks and ramps, metric and standard hand tools? If so, you more than likely can replace the headgaskets yourself. You will need to find a machine shop to at least pressure test and surface the heads before reinstalling. It is not hard to replace the head gaskets and intake gaskets, just time consuming and takes alot of patients. As far as the tranny, I have never replaced the front seal, but the pan gasket should not be a problem to repair yourself.
If you are planning on having a shop do the repairs for the head gaskets, my guess is that it would not be a good deal for you to buy the car. You could be looking at $800 repair and up, usually UP!

You have coolant in the oil? If you have been driving it with coolant in the oil the engine is most likely shot.
Your mom's boyfriend should have told you that antifreeze has a chemical reaction with the babit on the bearings. I warn you of this because the head gasket is not a easy job. I would hate to see you do that much work just to have a bearing spin a week later.

Hang in there, you will find one or check around some of the local salvage yards to see if they have a replacement motor for a decent price. You could probably get the engine replaced cheaper than getting a head gasket job done.
