Starter problems?

Default Starter problems?

Starter went out on me yesterday. Replaced starter today.... When it was time to connect battery back the car is trying to start without the key in the ignition switch!!!!! Had the starter took out and put in again with the same results... what could be the problem??????

That means that the control wire to the solenoid has constant power on it, should only have power when the key is turned to the start position. Could be due to a wiring problem, faulty ignition lock, faulty starter solenoid (stuck on), wiring error, start relay contacts welded due to overload.. Use a voltmeter or test lamp to see if there is constant power going to the control lead.

I had the same problem when we put the new engine in my daughters car. The main cable coming from the battery to the starter had a small 90 degree tab on it that was suppose to keep the cable from trying to twist as one tightens the nut and we did not have it aligned properly. Once the cable was tightened down, the lip was touching ground causing the engine to try and start even with the key off.
