i wouldnt put 4.XX on a v6 car, you dont have that much to release with nothing else done... if its pretty stock just go with 3.73, youll def open up that rear end plenty without killing gas mileage

the bigger the gear isnt really the better, i know someone who was running 410s, he blew the rear end and decided to go with 373s and it ran a few tenths better, it was a better ratio for his power, you can over gear and 410 in a stock 3800 is over geared

If he got 3.73 would he have to change anything else, or would stock rear end work just fine? I'm just asking 'cause I want to know for myself, and I'm definitely still learning.

gota change ring and pinion, your carrier should work but you can check to make sure.

I could be way off base here, but isn't the way you change the gear is by changing the ring and pinion? Unless there's some type of way that you can adjust it?

you are correct and no other way to change gear ratio in rearend except by changing the ring and pinion. the carrier on a 223 will not work on a 323 and up but like i said the 323 carrier will work for a 342 and 373s.
