Rearend Gear Question
I have a '97 Camaro, 3.8L, auto.. I'm thinking of changing the gear to get a little more out of the hole.. I'm thinking 4.11's.. What experience does anyone else have on this???
Probably a 3.23, but check the sticker in the glove box for the option code. GUx. A 4.11 will definitely give you much more response off the line, but you will need a limited slip differential, and you may not like the noise and poor fuel mileage. I had cars with 4.56 that I drove both on the strip and around town. They were definitely a hoot around town, but then gas was only $0.75 a gallon.

With 3.23 You should be turning 2500 RPMs at 75 MPH with standard 22 inch dia tires
With 4.11 You should be turning 3200 RPMs at 75 MPH with standard 22 inch dia tires
This is my normal cruising speed. I would expect a 20% reduction is fuel mileage.
