Rearend Gear Question
I have a '97 Camaro, 3.8L, auto.. I'm thinking of changing the gear to get a little more out of the hole.. I'm thinking 4.11's.. What experience does anyone else have on this???
|
Also, sorry for this stupid question, but what size rearend do I have???
|
Probably a 3.23, but check the sticker in the glove box for the option code. GUx. A 4.11 will definitely give you much more response off the line, but you will need a limited slip differential, and you may not like the noise and poor fuel mileage. I had cars with 4.56 that I drove both on the strip and around town. They were definitely a hoot around town, but then gas was only $0.75 a gallon.

I wouldn't go with 4.11's if I were you. I would go with 3.73's. They will give you plenty more bite than the factory gears. That is assuming you have 3.23's or 2.73's.

Thanks everyone...

Also, what bolt is my rearend???
|
I have 3.08 gears :/. Not sure of it, but Im pretty sure they are 3.08s cuz my RPO sticker is missing.
|
its a 10 bolt also called a 7.5 inch.
|
My 1997 V6 has 3.23 rear end gears, i was thinking about getting 4.11s, a shop near me could do it for $700 for everything.

With 3.23 You should be turning 2500 RPMs at 75 MPH with standard 22 inch dia tires
With 4.11 You should be turning 3200 RPMs at 75 MPH with standard 22 inch dia tires This is my normal cruising speed. I would expect a 20% reduction is fuel mileage. |
