Exclamation Rear axle bearing

So my ride is making a humming sound in the rear and i was told i will need to replace the rear axle bearing. By any chance do you know how much work that is and how much it will run me for parts. If it is not that hard i am willing to do it my self. It is a 1997 V6 RS. I tried to search it, but was unsuccessful. Can anyone please shine some light my way?

thanks Dznuts.

According to Autozone website, the bearing is around $30. According to the repair manual, you will need to drain the differential fluid, remove a C clip ring so you will also need to pick up some differential lubricate and you will need a slide hammer and a bearing pulling tool. I have never done it but reading the procedure in the book, it don't sound all that hard to do if you have the tools and some jackstands. Oh, and if you don't have the repair manual, might want to pick up one of them for $25 so you will have the step by step and a few pictures to look at as a reference.

Look into purchasing a Haynes/Chilton Manual, or if you can afford it, a Dealer/Shop Service Manual.

Axle bearing isn't too bad, but be prepared to do some pounding with a slide hammer to get the old one out / new one in.

I'd be concerned the problem is a pinion or carrier bearing, both which require the differential to be removed.

sounds to me like rear diferential (spl)? mine was making a humming noise and then it jammed up and locked the rear end up so i had to get it rebuilt u dont want that to happen just saying u should look into having a shop diagnose the problem and go from there if u can do it yourself even better.

Oh man, after two and a half years, I hope he got the problem fixed.
In case you didn't notice, this was a dead thread that didn't need a revival.
