Did you pack the oil pump with KY jelly? It should prime pretty quickly. You can disconnect the ignition module or Pull the fuel pump fuse or disconnect injectors what every is easiest for you to keep it from starting. (do not pull plug wires) Then just crank it and watch the oil pressure gage. Once you get the reading connect things back up and fire her up. Do not crank longer then 30 seconds, as it can over heat the starter. Wait 2 minutes before cranking again.

You do have the GM manual? Packing the pump is not just a trick in this application it is required. If you do not pack it you would need an external pump to prime it.
FYI I always pack all oil pumps, even new high end racing units that I prime on the engine stand.
