I was so going to post this
Something is not right, The clutch must be pushed in to start the car and how would the system even know what gear it was in? There is no gear sensor I am aware of except reverse that that just turns on the lights. Your car would have to have a neutral sensor in the shifter?

Neutral safety switch is in the shifter for automatics only, it allows you to start the car in park or neutral. Manuals just have a switch in the clutch. The only switch the manual transmission has it on the reverse fork.
