Exclamation Gauge problem

I have a newly purchased 2002 V6, anniversary package. I've noticed when I fill up the fuel, the gauge will read full for about 50 miles or so, then it drops to below empty and the 'check gauges' light stays on. It's either full or empty, no in between.
Also, the temp gauge doesn't seem to be working. I thought at first the fuel gauge might be a sender, but it the temp gauge is involved, as well, I don't know what would affect them both.
Any suggestions on where to start with this? It's the only issue the car really has.
Thanks in advance!!

You need to try and figure out if they are related or not. I am going to guess you have 2 seperate issues.

I would start with the temp guage since it is easier get to. Assuming you are getting heat out of your heater, make sure the sensor is good and the wiring harness is connected to it. You can ohm out the temp sensor when the engine is cold then run the engine to warm it up and ohm out the sensor again to see if the readings are different. If you don't have an ohm meter, pick up a new temp sensor and install it. It just screws in the engine and they are not that expensive.

As far as the fuel guage, that is a little more complicated as the fuel sending unit is part of the fuel pump. Check your wiring harness and grounds to make sure the connectors are clean.

I agree with duck on this one. I hate when people just throw parts at their cars so test the sensor first. I work behind a parts counter and see people bring me relays all the time, relays rarely go bad but people love to blame them for their problems. So test the sensor first off and if there is no change in the reading from cold to warm then buy a new one.

Also I hope you didn't pay extra for the Anniversary package... All 2002s have the badge on the dash. The only true anniversary package cars are the Red SS's with the silver stripes. We have a few dealers here that try to make the 2002s sound special because of the dash plaque.

Now the 97s had an anniversary package that was available on all trims, but was optional. If you had the SS it came White with Hugger Orange stipes and the Camaro Logo with a "30" styled over it embroydered into the seat backs. The SS had that in color. All other models got any color interior or exterior you wanted and the "30" logo was embossed into the seats.

Anyway Welcome to the forums and lets see some pics of the ride!!
