i hear a thumpin sound when i start my car, i never heard it before

 

Need many many more details than this. what area is it coming from? what exactly are you doing when it makes the noise (is it while its cranking, right after its turned over, when you turn it to accessory), does the sound happen every time you perform this action?

stuff like that.

 

Could you be a little more specific maybe? Location of the noise perhaps? Im guessing its ony at start up but does the ambient temperature affect it at all? And of course is this a 3.4 or 3.8?

 

it sound like its comin from the power steering. the temperature doesnt affect it.3.4 like always. and after it cranks over. happens every time i start it

 

its not that loud, it might be the wipers, it runs strong

 

so its after the engine is running. is it a continual noise, or just a single "thud" and then nothing? power steering usually only makes noise if you are turning the wheel to its max, then you can get a popping if something is wrong, or a straining sound if its just working hard. if its continual, it may be a rod knocking, we had one of those recently, thats bad news, but that would sound like its coming from within the block. if you are getting only a single pop and then its done with until u start the car again it would have to be some accessory, because anything rotating within the motor will make the noise any time. even tho all the accessories spin, they dont necessarily have to make any noise every time if something is wrong. if you can give us any and all information you may have. i know its frustating but i cant pinpoint anything from what you have said.


you mention wipers, is there any switch you have to pull before it does the noise? can you reproduce the noise after the car has been started by doing anything like hitting a button, turning the wheel, revving up, turning on whipers.... anything like that.
