well my car has stopped making the noise now, altho a different problem has shown up. when i go into 3rd gear itll stay at 1000rpm no matter the speed im going, the car will go faster but it wont rev up, get louder, and its not lugging down its like idling. but it doesnt happen everytime. i think were just gonna take it to a legit shop

You understand that this is simply not possible. In 3rd gear your trans is at a 1:1 ratio so if you take 1000 RPM divide that by your rear axle ratio the times that by the circumference of you tire and that is your max speed at 1000 RPMs. You torque converter will cause it to be a little less then that but if you are going any faster than that you either in another gear or your RPMs are going up.

a new car? Why? lost my engine in my Sarah which is a 99 3.8L, The engine can be found and installed in the car for far less than a new car and you will still have a nice car that runs good. Here is what I did:
Called wrecking yards for a Camaro/Firebird 3800, NO JOY
Called a few other places: JOY but at the cost of $1300 +
Did alot of research: JOY found alot of engines that will work.
Bought a 3800 Series II engine from a 2001 Pontiac Boneville $500
Bought some new gaskets and other engine swapping stuff $200
3 long days in my friend's garage
JOY JOY JOY my Sarah now has an engine that has 1/2 the miles that she does purrring in her engine bay.
I did have to swap a few parts from the stock motor to the new motor like:
Intake upper and lower (with fuel rail and other goodies from the Camaro)
Oil filter mount
oil pickup tube
oil pan
valve covers
EGR valve
exhaust manifolds
harmonic ballancer
flywheel
mounting brackets and belt tensioner from the Camaro (buy new plastic elbows)
It was not too hard to do all and all.
The engines you can use are numerous and plentiful:
1996-2005 3800 Series II engines are all the same with the exception of a few things like intake and pulleys and what not. Basicly the long block is all the same. Series I and Series III engines are not the same. Series I engines WILL NOT work and Series III engines will work but need a little more help (I dont know all the details for the Series III swap)
Anyway there ya go, and if you live in WA and want to get rid of the car lemme know I may be interested.
