Engine hesitation/cuts out...
I hooked up my '97 Camaro to a diagnostic (engine light came on) and it read cyl 4 misfire. The car doesn't do it all the time, just every now and then when I go to accelerate, usually at speeds of 50mph+ the engine cuts out every once in a while showing some real power loss. My guess was a bad plug, wire, or dirty fuel injector...I replaced the plug and checked the wire, still the same results, would a dirty injector explain my problem? Also, my engine light turned off as well, don't know what that means, but the problem's still there, any input would be helpful, thanks.

There Is Only Three Causes For Misfire. Ignition, Fuel, And Compression. You've Already Ruled Out Ignition. Injectors Are Fairly Cheap And Easy To Change.( You Already Know What Cylinder ). That Would Rule Out The Injector. The Third And Most Costly Can Be Checked Out With A Compression Gauge. You Can Get One Fairly Cheap And They Are Simple To Use. Hopefully The Injector Is Bad. If It's A Compression Problem It's Either A Valve Or Compression Ring. Sick

I have a compression gauge but did not consider it because of the fact that it is not a constant misfire, it's very irregular...my bet is the injector, and I added some cleaner to my tank of gas tonight, how long should I wait for results? The entire tank or should I notice something earlier?

RE: Engine hesitation/cuts out...
Since The Problem Is Only On One Cylinder It's Less Likely A Sensor Malfunction. I Don't Put Alot Of Trust In Fuel Treatment But, Give It A Day Or So. What You Can Do Is While The Engine Is Running Look For Gas Seepage On That Injector. That Is A Tell Tell Sign Of A Roasted Injector. Just Because A Car Has A Bad Compression Or Intermediate Ring That Doesn't Mean It Will Burn Oil. Each Piston Has Three Rings. Compression, Intermediate , And An Oil Ring. It Is Very Possible To Have A Broke Compression Or Intermediate Ring Without It Burning Oil. Don't Be Fooled. Sick

RE: Engine hesitation/cuts out...
Alright, I'm still baffled by the problem, but I've narrowed down when it occurs...I only feel the loss of power in the car when I'm doing about 50-60 mph, and I try to accelerate gently, without making it downshift, I feel the hesitation until I lay off the accelerator or I make it downshift, then the hesitation is cleared up. I'm thinking I simply have a bad injector, and if it's Cyl. 4, it won't be easy to get to...
