^ Not true. High flow cats can give a little boost, as was the case on my '95 3.4L. In that instance, the stock cat broke up inside and was rattling making noise, so it needed to be replaced.
On a 3.8L from the OP, there are other options from Pacesetter:
Clear Image
RK Sport
Force Fed Fabrications Long Tubes (yes, long tubes work on this car), want dyno HP/TQ proof? It's here:

Midas is hardly a shop I would ask for F-Body header advice! Yes you want less engine bay heat to prevent other unintended consequences, so I would get them coated with a good quality coating. Not sure if Pacesetter's coating is very good, heard about it not lasting from folks on LS1Tech...
