Default Help with auto trans

I have a 96 camaro with an auto and V6. Trans is slipping, what cheap rebuild kits are u guys using? I want to rebuild it, and i dont want to stick alot of money in it, because I dont think this trans will bolt up to a V8 down the road. (Summit, jegs, Rockauto)

Do you know how to rebuild it and have the special tools needed? 4 speed automatic are not simple. I know a lot of pro's that can rebuild motors blind folded but still will avoid a 4 speed automatic rebuild. Part of rebuilding a trans is the ability to figure out what all needs replaced. You can replace the seals and the clutches but if there is an underlying issue that cause the problem and you miss it you could wear of the new parts very quickly or not have it work at all. You tear one seal and its a redo... I know I have had to do redos.

You are right V6 will not bolt to a V8. Rock auto will be the cheaper of the places you listed. Shops can get kits a little cheaper but they have seller going after them.

Junk yard might be the way to go. Some come with 90 day warranties and removing and replacing a transmission is a 100 time easier then rebuilding one.

Does that person have a source? You can buy a kit a head of time but who knows what else you may need once you get in there.

Last time I had a friend get me a quote on my Z the parts where almost as much as rockauto wanted for a reman. He said it was because of all the updates. There are a lot of known defects in the pre 2002 trans.
