before you can start my car you have to prime the fuel system and what I mean by that is you have to turn the key to the on position and let the fuel pump run till it shuts off then turn it off and then back on. You have to do this 2 sometimes 3 times. I already changed the fuel filter and my next route is the fuel pump. what do you guys think. I have a 97 RS.

 

FI system is not holding pressure, possibly due to bad fuel pump (check valve leaking), leaky injector, bad pressure regulator, or external fuel leak.

 

Thx! so now my next question where should I start checking before i go thru the hassel of replacing the fuel pump

 

Get a fuel injection pressure gauge first. Then test the pump and the regulator, there are stickies on how to do it, or invest on repair manual for your car. If pump and regulator test OK, then check the injectors. This requres pulling the fuel rail with the injectors attached, then turn key to on to run fuel pump and observe if any injectors are leaking.

Well guys it ended up being the fuel pump and here is a link to how I did my trap door. It worked like a charm. saved me any where from 6 to 10 hrs.
