Rear End Questions - Ring & Pinion
I have a 98 SS 6-speed with 3.43 rear end.
Would like some more low end performance and was thinking about changing my ring and pinion gears.
I was going to change to a 3.73 ratio......will I notice the difference or should I go to 4.11 gears......I don't want to go too steep.
What does you tach read at 60 mph with 3.73 and 4.11 gears with the 6 speed manual trans?

Your car should have 3.42 gears from factory. Not 3.43. If I were you, I'd go with 3.73's. The 4.11's will be way steep and you'll get horrid gas mileage. As far as RPM's go, I can not give you and answer for that. The 3.73's will have way more bite to them than the stock gears. Plenty enough to make a noticeable difference. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you'll have to get your new gear ratio tuned into your PCM for your car to run right.

To calulate RPM you would also need to know tire diameter. A quick short cut since its the same car and a true ratio just take your RPMs and apply the ratio.
Example
Lets say your current car run 2100 RPMs at 60 MPH now devide by 3.42 and you get 614.04 now times that by 3.73,,, 2290 RPMs and take the 614.04 times 4.11 and...2523 RPMs Math can be fun
