Well go ahead and replace all your AC parts, I will say it so you can feel justified in doing and Massey said so. It is your dime and if you love throwing them away on parts that dont need to be replaced who am I to say otherwise.
Your LS1 does not have that much more emissions compaired to the 2010 truck. The AIR system is electric and does not rob power but it does help lower the emissions. The EGR can be removed the 01 and 02 had no EGR. The truck's systems are very similar to the Camaro's but the truck has much more open space to put everything in so thing are more spaced out and not as tight.
IF you have issues with repairing this car you are really going to have fun with a second gen. Think about it if you will. You have a nice car with a afew issues that is 10 years old but now you want to get a car that is over 30 years old... I cant think of any issues that a 30 year old car would have... Hey but it's your call

THe one I use came from Schucks (now O'Reilly) about 15 years ago and it is sturdy as can be. It is the exact same one they offer now in the AC Delco Tools, or Pro*** something tools line. The stand I have has 4 wheels, the back 2 are fixed and the fronts are casters. I have had an inline 6 on it which puts alot of load on the stand because of the length of the engine and it worked just fine with no issues. For $89 (which is the same price now as It was when I bought it) it was a great investment.

You probably need to use some penetrating oil. I think that PB Blaster is one of the best out there. Spray some on and come back later and spray some more on. Get a cheater bar, a good 6 point socket, some friends to steady the engine and give it hell.

That is not bad cost wise. What reluctor wheel does it have? The 4th gen version of the engine has a higher resolution reluctor that the LS1 computer cannot understand and you need to use some type of adaptor for the LS1 computer. If the engine is a Gen III you should be OK. I cant remember the tooth count off the top of my head I would have to pull out one of my Camaro Performers mags and see what it is. They just had an article on this like 2 or 3 issues ago.
