New Car...Tranny Help
I just bought a 2002 Z28 and it runs like a champ. It has headers on it and basically the entire exhaust system has been redone. I'm not sure if I like that though.
It also has a shift kit on it. Unfortuneately I do not know the manufactorer of any of these modifications.
I have a slight problem with the low end of the car. It seems to shift too hard into 1/2/3 and it when we're just coasting at very low RPMs the car just wants to shut off. I think it's the shift kit. I'm not sure. The car idles perfect while in park.
I know absolutely nothing about shift kits and am wondering if I can just remove it to save myself a headache. Is there anything I would have to get (stock) to replace the shift kit? It also doesn't get anywhere near the amount of fuel economy it should (It's a V8, I know it's not going to get great gas mileage but it definitely should be getting better mileage than this. Approxmately 50/mi to a quarter of a tank.)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I think I want to put on the original exhaust and if anyone is looking for headers/etc I would be more than happy to trade for the original parts.
Thanks!

The shift kit is the reason it shifts hard, that's the point of a shift kit. As for the dieing while you are at low rpm's, would need more information about that. Does it have a aftermarket stall converter in it? And any thing happen during or before it dies?
I don't know it if has the stall converter you mentioned. I have very little information about the car.
Honestly, I think I've gotten screwed a little bit on the deal. The car runs like a dream when I jump the throttle, but when I'm just cruising it shifts all over the place and doesn't want to run right.
Between 20-40 mph it jumps from first gear, to second, to third and then back to second. After that it skips from second to overdrive.
On a side note is there anything I have to purchase to remove the aftermarket shift kit and just make it factory? Was anything factory removed when it was put in? Does it matter what brand it was to answer this question? As stated I know nothing about shift kits and haven't had any time whatsoever to research it.

It would depend on the shift kit, but most of them are just a plate that's installed over inside the factory valve plates to controll the flow of fluid. You should just be able to remove the plate. But there also might be some other little stuff in there, I'm not sure and you won't be either until you open it up. I would suggest since you don't know much about it that you take it to a professional. If you take the tranny out yourself, it'll cost a lot less for someone else to look at it.
