Default different tranny

i have a 95 z28 and the auto tranny is fried from the hp.ok just me lol. i think it has that 4l60e in it but i have a fresh rebuilt th400 on the shelf with full man valve body shift kit race clutches etc.i know that it's not electric shift and i would lose my spedo.but have you heard of anyone putting one of these trannies in there car and how did it preform.just trying to take the 400 off the shelf and use it since it cost me 2 grand to build it i know the tranny mount is in the wrong spot but that no biggie for me to fix since I'm a welder by trade.just looking for some input thanks

The 400 is a very heavy tranny, you will have to shorten the drive shaft. I put one in an 86 I-ROC and used two pieces of 1/4 angle with the original two piece cross member. In that car you may want to check fire wall clerance.

theres been a couple threads on here about it. i know there are many things that will need to be worked out. kick down, trans mount, trans length, speedo. not sure about size or ground and exhaust clearance.

i'd find a used tranny for maybe 500 bucks. a lot of guys use the 350 and 400 trannies for drag racing...but i don't see the point of putting one in a daily driver

I really think you would be sorry losing the overdrive. The way that T400 sounds, you should be able to fetch a pretty penny for it. Sell it, and replace or get the 4L60E rebuilt.

agreed with hammer and 69 it too much hassel to use a th400. sell it on ebay or craigs list and try this https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/home.php?cat=18 . pick ur poison. its resaonable the cheapest i got quoted to rebuild my 4l60e just stock is 1700 to 2000. so i think its a good deal. when i get it dropd in and broke in ill test it to see how well the pro street elite handles track and back roads wise.

yes i see you point about the overdrive and all the bs but i thought the 4l60e /700r4 were a weak tranny and they cost a small fortune to build
