Loud ticking!!!!??
Hey guys.. I drove my camaro from Houston to Galveston yesterday, spent about 4hrs at the beach and when I went to leave I started my car and all the sudden ihear a loud ticking. It gets louder and faster with revs then after a few minutes the sound goes away. Its never done this before. I started it this morning and the same ticking but goes away after a few minutes and a couple revs. Its worrying me. Its a 2002 3.8l v6. Just under 190,000 miles. Any thoughts

Sounds like a lazy/tired/weak lifter to me. Your miles are high and thats entirely possible.
So what does that mean...what should i do...keep driving it. Or is this something that needs to be fixed asap. Will this affect the way it runs. Any posts on how to do it urself.
ya its something you shoud address asap. if it is a lifter (which i also think it is) its not letting the valve open all the way causing a poor running condition. also one time i saw a lifter get so bad that the pushrod came out and destroyed the engine but that was an older V8 ford
anyways there pretty easy to change, id do them all while your in there.

As of now there is nothing showing any difference in the way it drives or its performance. But that ticking is very annoying and embarrassing. So I want to get this fixed. I've never done this before but then everything I've fixed on this car has been a first for me and have done it myself. So...where can I get info on how to do this myself and what to buy.
so does it only do it when the motor is cold? do you have headers? check for any indication theres a leak around the exhaust ports. a small exaust leak will make a ticking noise and close up when engine warms up. also when was last oil change and what oil and filter was used?
