Flowmaster Muffler?

RE: Flowmaster Muffler?
for the record, almost all big name mufflers do in fact out-flow flowmasters. Spartan was right about that. That doent mean that you cant make good numbers and good times through them. Just saying if you wanted to be specific, they are the most restrictive aftermarket muffler you can get.

That is good information to know.
You won't see my car on Pinks All Out which means I will sacrafice a few ponies for the sound I love. Hmm...maybe I should hook my 150 shot back up??? Lol...

RE: Flowmaster Muffler?
I received the muffler on Wednesday (80 series). The part number is 42583
It was a direct replacement for the factory muffler. The muffler shop was able to cut out the old muffler and weld in the new one. The driver side tailpipe needed about a 4" extension (I will hold back the jokes!) since the new muffler was much shorter in length.
The car definitely sounds much deeper and throatier (is that even a word?). At idle and when cruising you don't even notice a change in tone too much. When accelerating is when you notice a change in tone (nice).
It is still a little too quite for my liking right now. I think headers might be next or maybe a high flow cat. Not sure what would add more volume; headers I am guessing?
What headers has anyone used/use that they recommend? I am looking for a straight bolt on to factory with no modifications required. I saw a pair of BBK that claim no modification?

RE: Flowmaster Muffler?
dont do it. if you are looking for more power then do the ypipe first. headers through the stock ypipe is pretty worthless. i know ive said this before but the best way to do it is to get long tube headers AND a matching ypipe, this will bolt right up to your stock catback. It will run about 500 dollars probably. If you really dont want to do it all at once, get the replacement stock ypipe with highflow cats or off road. I believe you can get a 2.5" pipe for this. Then later on get a pair of shorty headers. but i would really advise you not to get the headers first.

LOL Elantra...
Anyway, Specter is completely right, don't do shorty headers with the stock Y, it's useless. You can get a 3" Y that bolts up to the stock manifolds wich will help out, but my $0.02 is; if you're going to go through the trouble and money of removing part of the old system and replacing it with something new, you may as well go big so you don't have to do it again. If you're willing to save for a little and get a great set of headers, go for Kooks headers/Y-pipe, if you want to spend a bit less Dynatech comes in at a close second.
