I have a 69 with a 5-speed, ZZ4 motor, long tube headers and flowmaster 40's which has the great sound everyone is looking for but is also pretty loud even at half gas. Everyone has flowmasters and I am thinking of something a little quieter, different and wondered if anyone has the original transverse muffler on their cars. I had that stock dual exhaust on a 69 many years ago and remember it to sound nice and mellow and that was a stock 350 so I am wondering if the stronger ZZ4 cam would sound just about right through the transverse set up, also wondered if I would notice a difference in performance. Any opinions on what would sound good but a little quieter???

 

I love the sound of my transverse muffler. It not only is quitter it has a good sound to it. If you do decide to go that route be sure to use the 2 1/4" pipes like the original SS's used. That will give you the needed flow and performance you want over the standard 2" pipes for duals.
