Default painting my valve covers and intake manifold

How should i go about this? I want to paint em red, i have some red duplicolor high gloss paint thats heat resistant. Do i just easily unbolt em, clean it/sand it maybe? (since their black), tape over the holes etc. and begin to coat it and bolt em back on?

*cough*ricer*cough* [8D]

Just leave it alone, doesnt do anything for ya, and its a pretty decent amount of work just for different colors under the hood.

damn you are observant... ok im getting irritated... i dont care if you think its ricerish (go tell that to the hot rods and other various muscle cars with red engine paint). I just need to know how i should do this... should my engine be hot/cold, how should i prep the manifold and covers etc... thats it.. the side remarks are not necessary..

Just clean and sand as you stated. I'm sure you know to put a few coats on there.I have a set I painted, just need to put them on... I painted mine flat black though. I forgot you were talking about the manifold as well. Probably just a little more work than the valve covers.

Just leave it alone, doesnt do anything for ya, and its a pretty decent amount of work just for different colors under the hood.
If you want to discredit someone for wanting to set their car apart from every other one, please do so elsewhere. If you think that is "ricer", then look at your wheels and tell us what they did for ya...

thanks nic and 02. Also it just hit me.. my gaskets.. would i have to replace them...? Im thinking about just unplugging and taping off my intake manifold since its upright and spraying that (my engines still hot so i dont want to take the bolts off.. have the engine cool n shrink and then have bolts that dont fit... but right now time isnt my concern ill stay up all night if i must my concern is the gasket.. i cant afford a blown one so is there a way i can do this and keep my gasket in good condition?

Again thanks for your guys help... I didnt know that wanting to be different while staying within a safe domain and not adding wings etc. was considered ricerish...

You will need to remove the intake manifold and therefor need new gaskets (for the valve covers too). No offence, but are you able to this without screwing it up? You have had a bunch of issues with the car in the past, why mess with it just for a different color. Wait till you HAVE to take it apart and then do it.

You will definatly want to replace the gaskets, depending on weather you have cork or rubber gaskets, and how long sincethey have been replaced, they will be in varying states of wear. I have tried to re-seal valve cover gaskets though and never had any luck getting a quality seal the second time, even with new gaskets. The gaskets shouldnt cost too much (dependingon the quality you go with) I would go with the high quality, "rubbercoatedfiber" (if I remember, it has been awhile)gaskets, which have a solid core for moredurability against overtightening and wear than cork orrubber. As JD has stated, you will have to remove the intake manifold as well for painting, and replace that gasket as well- you might want to get some help since you are not so mechanically inclined.
