When getting a replacement ecm from the yard, does it have to be from an exact match car or can you put a v8 camaro ecm into a ss

 

some years are same, other than that the pcm/ecm is engine and trans specific.

 

I think it needs reprogrammed for the cars Vin number, I have read that there is a hand shake between the VATs system and the PCM/ECM. The only year 4th gen with a ECM is 93. You should be able to find someone local who has HPtuners that can get it running. If you have to go to the dealership it might be cheaper to just by the PCM online programmed for you car and ready to go.

SS is the same engine as a normal V8, most of the upgrades are cosmetic. Of course you would need to have the same transmission.
