Changing Front Struts on 1998 Camaro
Okay, one more dumb question. Will a standard strut spring compressor work on these springs??? The compressor I have has 2 hooks top and bottom....just wondering if it's going to fit the smaller Camaro springs, or if I need to go out and buy a special compressor.
I've got problems!!!
I got the struts out of the car last night, no issues, and then I saw the strut mount nut. The main nut holding the mount onto the strut shaft is BADLY rusted, to the point of crumbling, on both struts. They're seized to the shafts, and I can't get them off. Sockets, hammed on, just keep rounding the nuts down smaller and smaller. I tried to cut the nuts off with my angle grinder, but it can only go through half of the nut before it starts to contact the strut mount. What do I do????? Strut mounts for these cars are $80 each, I really don't want to destroy the ones I've got....

u will need to get it aligned. after everything the last thing u want to do is ruin a set of tires. when u have it all apart and put it back it changes things a little and add to that new parts that will change things a little more. only takes a fraction of an inch. now u know y its good to lube up that bolt on the front. not such a big thing on the back shocks. it took quite a while to cut the bolt with the chisel making sure not to hurt the mount. didnt worry bout the old shock shaft though.
