bad wheel hop when trying to spin tires, looked not finding threads

This may be your posi unit. It should not re-engage like that, with a clunk.
sorry I don't think it is related to your hop issue tho.

posi unit? are you talking about the rear end? the bang/clunk from that situation was also coming from what felt like the back of the engine

it could be traveling up the drive shaft from the rearend.
