Default 1994 Camaro Z28

I have a 1994 Camaro z28, its complete factory.
350 5.7L Lt1 6spd.

It has been blowing blue smoke out the exhaust when i get on it, and i loose about a qt of oil every week.

Im guess its the piston rings? Now my question is i want to beef up the engine some and give me some bigger horses.!! I have a buddy that will do the any kind of work for me for a couple hundred in labor.

Anyone have any idea what i can add or chnge on the enging to beef it up? for around $2,000 including the cost of parts to replace the piston rings?

thanks.

yep most likely the rings. you may get away with a economy rebuild with 2 k but thats about it

From what you are telling us it would appear that this engine needs more than piston rings. Things like cylinder reboring, new oversize pistons & rings, reground crank, new bearings, etc.. So, why not go for a 383 stroker, the parts price to build a 383 should not be much more than the price of rebuilding the 350.

i would but i dont know anything about how to build an engine lol.. all i know how to do is drive and do minor work but a 383 stroker. I have thought about that.

My engine in the camaro still runs strong, it was just setting a year before i bought it. and only has 54k miles on it. So, thats probably have my guy do that, if he is able to change it in to a 383.

thanks

Perform a leak down test. It could be just burning oil from a leaky valve. If so you can just replace the valve guides which is like a $50 job.

Valve seals for 50 bucks. You change the guilds and its a complete valve job. Depending on the machine shop it could cost $800.

Seems unlikly the rings need replaced at 54K miles. Valve seals are not a tuff job to do and they are cheap. You only need to remove te valve cover. Tuffest part of the job is getting the valves ajusted. Check Youtube for a video guide.

My bad I meant seals. You should do a leak down to check the rings anyways. You would also need to check compression before replacing valve seals or its a head job if the valve falls.
