I have a 86z28 i swaped a 350 4bolt main into. I had no clue on the trans. buti know the 700r4 should not lockup unless i get the kit but it goes into second gear at 5-10 mph and wont acel.It just sputters and back fires.carb is ajusted timing at 8 after and fuel presser is 8 psi now but started at 5 psi. is it a trans issue?
If so what would i have to do to drop a turbo 350 in it. i have a rebuilt t.350 just done a week ago

1) Try setting your timing between 8-10 before TDC. You don't want it after. As you're looking at the front of the engine, those would be the marks to the left of TDC.
2) What distributor do you have? Vacuum advance? And is the advance hooked up?
3) Do you have your TV cable to the trans hooked up and adjusted correctly?
The trans shifting too quickly, and your timing being way retarded will make your car run like a dog!

 

Yea the timing is at 8 before tdc. I'v played with the tv cable but not to much i'm going to try again. I put a hei out off the shelf with vacum advance with is hooked up.

 

the carb was bad but now it has no passing gear. when i give it gas for it to change and go into passing gear it down shifts into nuteral. any ideas.
