Default Cam Question

I have a question about the cam in a 1988 Iroc-z with the 350 motor. It's currently all stock, but i heard the Cams in these cars were quite weak and wondered what the best size or company would be best for a stock 350 motor that is in the IROC. What are the horsepower gains? Thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it.

Default RE: Cam Question

Horsepower gains depend on sevaral things, like what cam you decide on, if you plan to put headers on it, if you plan to port the heads... It is TPI, correct? EFI usually likes something with more lobe separation. If you're only going to change the cam and don't have headers, you'll be a bit limited. Get some headers for it and it opens up more for ya. With headers, assuming you'll need to get emissions compliance, something like this cam is what I would personally go for... http://www.jegs.com/i/Crane/270/104221/10002/-1# Now, I'm not sure of the cam specs of a stock '89 Iroc-z but this one should give you more kick on way or another. You could probably go a step up as well if you'd like but if yuou go too high you'll need to change your valve springs too.
