Depends on what type of distributor was used. The coil is on top of the cap if you have an HEI distributor. If you have a large diameter cap, with two separate plugs with wires connecting to the coil in the cap, you have HEI. Look for the terminal marked "BAT".
If you have the smaller diameter cap with no wires to it, then you have a separate coil and it should be mounted to the intake manifold (follow the center coil wire from the cap).

 

Ok I was being hasty and had accidently switched the distributer power with the tachometer wire smh. Fixed that and put a shim in the starter and she fires right up! As far as the cam break in 20 min at 2000 Rome should be enough correct?

 

when i got my cam for my LT1 the directions did say 20 min at 2000rpm.

 

Darn, and the next thing I was going to have you check (once establishing you had HEI) was the wiring hookup.
BC, that's interesting about those directions, since roller cams don't require a break-in procedure because there's nothing to "break-in". Could be those were generic instructions they pack with all their cams. The same "short run in/then change the oil right away" should go without saying.
