i have a gear reduction starter in my 383 camaro 1976 and the starter is grinding on the flywheel and tearing on the teeth, i think that the gears are not meshing correctly and there just scraping the tops of the teeth, what should i do? the starter is flush against the block so idk what else could be going wrong cause its new, help is appreciated greatly!!!

 

does it look like its hitting on the end of the gear or shaft? are you sure you have the correct tooth count for the flywheel? if so it is either to close or to far away. gotta figure that out and adjust. i will be moving this thead to the 2nd gen section. im sure youll get some responses there

 

it engages and can slide into the flywheel but i do not know flywheel size
