Has anyone heard of or done a conversion to a modern 5.3L vortech in a second gen camaro? Im thinking about either that or the 4.8L as possibilities. I'll probably buy an older style one that will bolt right in. Unless it's easy to put a newer Vortech in. If it's easy enough i'll probably do it. Just wanted to see if anyone's done it before or knows how difficult it would be.

 

The Vorech will bolt right in. You may have to do some tricks to install the 5.3L LS type engine.

 

You need the wiring harness and computer. If you don't use the matching trans, you have to program the computer to think that the trans is hooked up and working.

 

I'll probably be using the Turbo Hydramatic 350 that's in it already. Is it hard to program the computer like that?. Im also curious as to which engine would be better. There's 10HP or difference between the 5.3 and the 4.8 and i don't know the torque numbers offhand. I know the 6.0 is kind of a dog compared to the 5.3. My dad's truck has the 6.0 and my moms old suburban has the 5.3. It's way nicer revving and way smoother than the 6.0. Is there a difference between the 5.3 and the 4.8? I'll probably go with the 5.3 if i do this. Otherwise i'll just buy a ZZ4 350 or a similar engine. Maybe the 330HP deluxe from chevy. Just want to get a few different opinions before i decide on anything. I've never had any experience with the 4.8L so i thought i'd ask here.
