Default turbo build questions...

Im looking to turbo my 89 camaro... Its 383 with. 9.5.1.comp. with 175 shot nos.. it has 500hp without nos its carburated as of right now plans to change to FAST’s EZ-EFI, version 2.0. Just wondering what is the best turbo set up to go with? a detailed list would be greatly appreciated. im looking to spend up to $5k on the setup... is that reasonable or am I looking at more?

All depends on what your rotating assembly looks like right now. Is it all quality forged components? If not, you will either need to have minimal amount of boost and more than likely have to drop the nitrous or rebuild the bottom end to support the extra stress. Personally, I'd drop the nitrous either way and switch to water/meth injection. Much safer and will allow you to run more boost safely.

Cam selection is a big thing too. Honestly, you're best off getting a custom cam ground for a turbo set up. Do you need to do this? No. But it will extract every ounce of power from the set up and will run much better.

Heads and valve train. Can the current heads support the extra air flow? Can the valve train take the extra stress?

All of these need to be taken into consideration before you start investing into the actual turbo. If you could give a detail list of what the engine already has inside of it, that will help us steer you in the right direction.

Your looking at something around a 68-72 mm to make the power you need. Take a rock and throw it at what ever company your prefer as far as the turbo goes. For piping your looking at all custom piping. Your compression is pretty high so consider upping your octane or going to a larger intercooler and adding a chemical intercooler like alky control or water/meth.
