Default whats this freggin thing called?!

my rear end is leakin, out of two spots, one is fixed. The other is where the yoke or whatever goes into the diff. That seal or whatever is bad. Whats that called?? ive looked in my haynes manual, and it let me down again. That chilton i got is pretty much the same thing as the haynes, i gotta get the thick chilton, not the thinner ones

That is the pinion gear seal. GM calls it "Seal, Differential Drive Pinion".
Now, if you had bought the Helms Inc," Factory Service Manual", all that stuff would be in it. LOL

Helm Inc, makes all the official factory service manuals for GM & various other companies. These are really big books (1500 + pages) and only cover a particular model for just one model year. You can order directly from the web site, www.helminc.com, for around $100, or you sometimes find them on E-bay at a lower price. Even at full price you can get the money back on the first repair.

The old chiltons are better. They have much of the same info as in the Helm manuals. But helm is the best.
The way I noticed to tell the difference between a good chiltons and a chilton that has a hayne manual inside is the good ones say "CHILTON"S" and the haynes ones just say "CHILTON" no " 'S" at the end

yea i found that out about those chilton books. i bought one at oreilly's and i got it home and opened it up to another haynes manual[:@]. But it does have a few more diagrams and other info that the haynes dosent have. so it wasnt a total loss i guess..

BE SURE YOU ARE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERTIGHTEN THE PINION YOKE RETAINER NUT OR YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE DIFFERENTIAL BY OVERLOADING PINION BEARINGS AND WILL THEN HAVE TO COMPLETELY REBUILD DIFFERENTIAL TO REPAIR BURNT BEARINGS OR EVEN WORSE TO ELIMINATE HIGH PITCHED HOWL IN REAR END UNDER ACCELERATIONOR DURING CRUISING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
