yea all the junkyards i went too wanted way to much for a 700r4. And yes, they are doing the removal, build, and install for that price.

Oh im also considering going ahead and buying a shift kit for it. Any body have any suggestions or past experiences with a certain brand?

go with the b&m kit. they offer 2 version, the heavy duty/rv and the street strip. its up to you of which you want.

I hate transmissions....they are filled with stinky red cool-aid and only work by some weird magic that only transmission shops understand. Weird *** pressure modulators and doohickeys and ****. I dread the day mine dies. Thats going to be a learning experience for me. Good luck. Let us know how the replacement goes.
In regards to the tranny slipping, it dosnt necessarily mean the trany is going out, could be as simple as low fluid, check the tranny fluid and if its low you tranny will slip. If it is low, check the tranny pan and make sure u dont have a leak, and then fill it with the proper fluid.

No leaks and it was full. Doesn't matter now, it's in the shop being rebuilt
