Default Torque converter lock up

Alright, so last year I installed a TCI lockup kit on my 700R4. Never worked to say the least... Well today I took the car to the guy who built the transmission and we did some fiddling around with it and decided to just wire up the TCC solenoid direct. Well for whatever reason we CANNOT get the torque converter lockup to engage. We bench tested the solenoid, tried another solenoid, direct leads from the battery, etc.

He mentioned a mechanical lockup fix. He looked in his books and found a kit that replaces the valve above the TCC solenoid with a spring loaded valve that enables the lockup at a certain speed depending on which spring you use, thus eliminating all electrical connections. Sounded good to me, so I had him order it.

Does this sound like a good alternative?

How many wires does your solenoid have?

Damn, that blew my "one-wire solenoid won't work" theory!
It's weird that you can't get it to work with testing more than one solenoid. It sounds like a wiring issue though. Thinking cap back on!

We had the solenoid on the bench and it fired with a transformer and compressed air, so we believe the solenoid is firing when we power it, the TCC is just not engaging.

Is the line from the vacuum switch hooked up to the right place? It's supposed to be hooked up to ported vacuum (you probably already know that), but you can also try hooking it up to manifold vacuum to see if that makes a difference. Vacuum needs to be more than 8-10 inches to engage the t.c. Have you checked your vacuum?

The TCI kit is no longer on the car, like I said we have the TCC solenoid wired direct to hot and ground but it will not engage the lock up.

That's the kit that he's installing tomorrow. To me it seems simpler, more reliable, and less troublesome than the TCI kit, and eliminating wiring is always a plus to me...

I'm I looking at this correctly? What about when say I'm cruising at 70 MPH and the TC is locked. I punch it, will the pressure change automatically unlock the converter or will it stay locked past a certain speed?
