Default starting problems because of security

I was hoping that maybe somebody could help me out.I have had problems starting the car because of the security chip, in the key.Sometimes the car starts, sometimes it doesn't.I can only guess that whatever reads the chip, in the ignition, must be about worn out, fifteen years of use.Anyway, can this BS be bypassed, like running a wire from switched power to the coil.Any help or suggestions would be appriciated.I have to get this fixxed asap, the camero is my daily driver.260K miles and counting.

Thanks,Philip 92 RS

This site shows how to bypass the VATS (which your Camaro has),as well asthe Passlock I and II systems. The VATS info is about halfway down the page, but I would advise you to read everything on the page to inform yourself on how it all works. The VATS system readsresistance through the chip in the key, and the Passlock reads it in the lock. If memory serves me correctly, there were onlyten different variables of VATSkeys used. What you will be doing is bypassing the resistance that is read through the key, and putting a resistor inline with the amount of resistance that corresponds withtheOHM reading of your key. You will need to buy or borrow an OHM meter if you don't have one.
