questions about 4:10 gears
i have 3.73s with basically the same drivetrain as you 305, auto... imho 4.10 is way too high. i wish i had a higher gear than the 3.73's. lots of acceleration and easy to spin the tires when you want to but not practical.
gary89vert so how does your 3:73s do ya thats the main thing why I wanted 4:10 because to make it quicker and the acceleration because just romping it and some strip time and also going to stick a bigger motor in it some day I just think it would be a good building block.Ow btw how much of a difference doe a posi have little quicker or hardly noticable
Shnormo's sugg. on the auburn is an excelent one, I've installed alot of them and I really like them, they are about the best unit out there. I was going to put one in my 79 Z28 until I put a Detroit Truetrac in the front 8.5 10 bolt in my 82 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup. It's better than LSD in that it works just like a LSD, but under torque, when it senses slip, it locks like a mechanical locker. It's helical gear construction makes it bulit proof. And since it does not use a clutch pack you don't need friction modifier. My boss took this pic just after I finished the install, please note that before I could not climb this rock. I recomend this because you plan on doing a 383 later on, The Auburn is an awsome unit but that 383 will wear it out sooner than you think. The Detroit is built with high torque stress in mind and may prove to be a longer lasting choice.
