ok I have a 00'z28 a4. I heard there is a way to check with your vin# to see if you have 2.73 or 3.23 but i'm not sure. my shift pattern goes. 1-2-D-OD-N-R-P

mine is gu4 and is 3.08. gu5 should be 3.23, gu6 3.42. 2.73 is either gu2 or 3. codes can be on the driver door also

on my door panel there were many three digit codes one of them said gu2 so i guess that equates to a 2.73

What gears do I have? How can I tell from the VIN# or other tags on the vehicle what gears I have in my car? 88 Iroc convertible, 305 A/T.

Any help appreciated

umm u need to find the option codes. usually in the glove box or center console or the door jam. should be a list of three characters, letters or numbers and theres a bunch of em. read thread again and ull see a link on one of my posts. i think thats all the option codes for all the gm vehicles. if u still have the code tag then u should be able to find it. providing u have a posi rearend (turn one wheel and if both turn the same direction its a posi) u can also jack the car up, block the front wheels so the car wont move, block and/or support the car with jackstands so it cant fall, and put the transmission in nuteral, then turn the back wheel one revolution and count the number of times the driveshaft turns. if it turns 3.25 times its a 323, almost 3.5 turns would be 342 about 3.75 turns would be 373. remember this is providing u have a posi rear end. if its a open rearend the oposite wheel from the one u turned would turn the oposite direction if the car is in gear or park and a posi would not turn at all. in order to do this with a open rearend u would need someone on the other wheel turning it the same direction as u so that both wheel turn the same direction and for one revolution. remembering to count the driveshaft revolutions. lol
