Let me REPHRASE,
Pull the serpentine belt off and see if the noise goes away.
Taking the belt off eleminates the alternator, ac clutch (if he has air ) Tensioner pulley, idler pulley, power steering pump, smog pump and water pump.
If no noise he can check for any play in pulleys on all the stuff that now have NO TENSION on them.

Lots of time it is idler pulley bearing or tensioner pulley bearing. If they wiggle any amount they need to be changed.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

No the belts were recently put on I haven't tried to check any of those. There's 3 individual ones no serp belt I'll give those a once over though. I'll give that a shot to see if their components are to blame.

Looks like I have some fun times this weekend Thanks all!!

I'm sorry, thought 87 had serp belt, geuss it started in 88.
Having v-belts makes it better cause you can just remove one at a time and run engine to check for noise.
Still check pulleys when the belts are off for any play in bearings.
When you have all the belts off you can hear all the other noises your engine makes that you can't hear with the belts and stuff spinning.
Good luck finding noise

Forgot one thing, when you tighten belts, do not over tighten.
OVERTIGHTENING just puts extra load on bearings and wears them out faster.
