Default Rear end humming 00 SS

Ok guys, today i had a set of 373 gears installed in my 2000 SS camaro auto, it has 53k miles. But i went to pick it up and i noticed down the road that it was making a humming noise on acceleration and coming to a stop. I do know that the ring and pinion was used but not in bad shape at all, my friend that did the install has been building and working on cars over 20 years said he's used gears over and over on track cars that were worse and never had issues, but he did tell me that the bearing and shim kit i bought from the transparts warehouse had the wrong shims, he dug up some old ones he had and they fit fine, everything else was correct except the shims. What could the possible problem be??? And how bad can it be????? Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

If it was quiet before the switch, then the noise was caused by the work that was done. Most likely the gears were not set properly, or the gears are bad.

If the gears were bad, wouldnt there be scar marks or some kinda visibal sign of wear????? I'm thinkin the backlash might not be set right. That would for sure make it whin like that right????

Yes it was quiet as can be before the switch, nothing looked bad or worn inside, it has low miles gingerly taken care of always. Im sure its something overlooked and will be resolved today. Gonna go meet the mechanic at the shop in a bit and unfortunately have to tear into the rear end again I'll update later. Thanx bud

Well we tore back into it to find everything right where it should have been, still same noise, so the craps shoot on the used gears turned out to be a bad deal, so i had to dish out for a new set, dropped it off at a shop here in town just to know i have a legit business behind the work for the future. So hopefully i'll get it back today if not then early tomorrow. Yeah my speedo was way off, i had just bought a diablo predator so i just flashed it right quick, really was worth the cash my opinion, for a stock ls1 with just cat back, slp cai and smooth bellow the preset diablo performance tune woke that car up, its a a4 so it adjusted the shift points and pressure and it really shifts hard and quick, between the programmer and gears this car WOKE UP BIG TIME, breaks the tires loose in between 1st and 2nd gear nice. So hopefully all goes well cuz if so we'll be going up to San Antonio this weekend to the track see what she runs. Any ball park figures based on mods?????

^^nice one, im gonna go for EFI live cause i need to do O2 delect and AIR and EGR delete as i got a LS6 intake and race long tubes with no cats . Hopefully if you can get a good launch and not spin too much I'd say you might be able to sneek some high 12's. I run 13.24 at moment, mods in sig, and you have gears so should be faster

Well i didnt get my car back in time to go to the track, but next month me and some buddies from work are gonna go to midnite madness so we'll see what she does then, also before then i should have headers and a off road y pipe installed no cats. So with the diablo i can adjust a lil to acomodate the headers. maudyz28 was gonna ask do you run with slicks??? And what mods do you have done to the ls1 besides cai and exhaust??

all mods in my sig

cai with cut out underneith and K&N, and a cat back (basically I cut pipe from after the axle and welded 2 pipes in for dual tips, so no mufflers)

then all suspension mods (but just taken out back eibach springs cause they sagged)

i run on my 18" street wheels, my diff is on its way out so i dont wanna kill it cause i have to drive it 100 miles home lol
