Default electric cooling fan question

My 88 2.8's ECM controls the on/off for my radiator cooling fan. What system would I use if I swapped an other type of engine that has an ECM with NO cooling fan control? I tried looking in my Summit catalog but could not find anything. Thanks in advance.

Mike

You could probably make your own setup with parts you can get at radio shack. I would find out what voltage the thermistor used for the coolant temp gauge puts out at 210 degrees, get a zener diode made for that voltage, and just re-wire that part of the fan relay circuit with that diode placed reverse bias before the relay, this will create a system completely self-regulated, since the zener diode will only allow voltage to go to the relay once the engine needs the fan to come on, at about 210 degrees. If you want some more help on this, I can pull up some wiring diagrams for what is there, and make one for what you need to change.

Well you could also use a thermistor circuit. It is a veriable resistor that changes with temperature.

That's pretty much what I just told him how to build, but buying it would probably be easier.

That's not a bad idea to make one yourself.
