a battery test may not be a bad idea. depending on ur ease of testing the starter. batteries have a habit of having enough juice to light up the car but not enough to crank. the voltage drop is what leads me to this.
if it was VATS or something else like that there would be no voltage drop because no circuit would close. batteries can get low enough that they wont even click the starter but they will still light up gauges

yea the possibility of a battery loosin cca when it's cold out is a possibility but try this first, take your cables off the battery and clean your terminals really well, brush em down to fresh lead and re connect them, make sure they are tight and see if your problem persists, also have it load tested when it's cold

it basically means the key wont work if the car thinks its a fake.
