Default 89' 350tpi hesitation

I was just wondering what the possibilities to engine hesitation are. I'm looking at a camaro right now, a 1989 iroc-z. He described it as 'Motor has appr. 190,000 km. 350 5.7 ltr/TPI, needs minor works, minor hesitations.' He also said it would take about 500 to get the engine running right (I assume the only problem is the hesitation).

Has any had engine hesitation before? And how did you overcome it?

Thanks!

It could be a number of things. What more info can you get? I would be leary of buying it if it needs 'about 500' to get it to work... thats actally computes to 'about 1k' in reality.

He hasn't responded to my second message yet so what it says in the add is what I know. If I end up going to take a look at it, i'll try and bring a family friend of mine whos a mechanic.

thats deffinitly a shrp looking car, but no 3rd gen camaro is ever worth 3000 bucks. if it needs work and you have the money to spend it would be a really nice car. those 350 tpi motors have some nut to them too. but if it does need work it could possibly be ignition and fuel system repair. and yes it probly will cost more than 500 bucks to get it running right again.

I dunno. An 89 IROC-Z in that good of condition (looks good anyways) could easily be worth 3k. Maybe a little less, depending on whats wrong with the engine. Hesitation could be a number of things, and anyone using a number on how much it will cost to fix without having any clue whats wrong with it is insane. Could be anything from a sheared lobe on the cam to a fouled spark plug.

Not to thread jack, but rockin, what transmission are you using with your build?

Guys, some F-body IROCS are selling right now for $20k++ (just check ebay). Most are selling for anywhere from $2-5k depending on miles and condition. To say that no F-body is worth $3k is ridiculous.

a hesitation can be caused by a multitude of things. if it is only a hesitation and there are no other driveability problems or lack of power, that can eliminate a lot of things. im going to assume it is only a hesitation. im not 100% sure, but i beleive the 89 was still using a MAF. i know the computer has a redundant system for a failure, and assuming the MAF has failed, that can cause a hesitation and rich running condition. there are also simpler things like the MAF being dirty, dirty air filters, worn spark plugs and wires, or a vacuum leak. a vacuum leak can be either from a bad intake gasket or from a cracked or broken vacuum line (very common). there are other things that can cause it like the ect sensor for the ecu could be bad, telling the the ecu the engine isnt warm, however that will cause it to run rich too. there could be fuel deliver issues as well, but they have other symtoms with them too i.e. poor fuel ecnomy, smoke, lack of power. if you can give me more info, i could help you narrow it down.
