Its a 79 bought it for $500 rebuilt the rear frame rails and the floor pans. Put a 67 chevelle 12 bolt in it, series 4 carrier 4.56 gears superior axles. Traction bars, 29 x 10 slicks. Frame is tied and it has a 8 point roll bar. It will run consistant 8.30s in the 1/8 not fast but its bracket racing. The GTO was dialed in at 9.10 wasnt any problem heads up. The engine is a garage built 350 with vortec heads. Trans is a th350 with a shift kit and a 3500 stall. Its the poster child for low buck fun we even tow it with a tow bar(you can see the tabs on the front bumper). We do have a nicely built 400 for it but I am lacking time and a th400 to get it done. I think this engine can get into 8.0s with some good air and a bit more tuning. It runs on 87 octane most of the time.

No we never took it over the closest 1/4 mile track is about an hour away this track is about 10 minutes away, and we are usally late getting there. If rust isnt an issue these cars are easy to work on, you can fit anything from a straight 6 to a big block in them. When you think about it the 2nd gens came with a straight 6, v 6, small block or a big block from the factory. The factory 10 bolt is a fairly stout rear end in these cars. Your other option being the Malibu may actually be a little easier to set up because they already have a full frame, I dont think they look as good though.

Oh well, time to move on to bigger and better things I guess, back to rear end plans for my camaro I guess. Shoot, that makes me mad. I sent him like 3 emails in two days. What do you guys think about the malibu?

 

not a big fan of the malibus and it seams its a little to spendy. you need to find a oldf-body that isnt a tottaly a piece of crap and drop a big block and make it a sleeper.
